KIRSTEN Richard W. Kirsten Sr. Inspector with Conrail Active in
scouting, 73 Richard W. Kirsten Sr., 73, of Rahway died on Saturday, Nov.
11, 2006, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. Relatives
and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Pettit-Davis
Funeral Home, 371 West Milton Ave., Rahway, on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Thence
to St. Marys R.C. Church, Rahway, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at
10 a.m. The interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Clark. Visitation is
on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Kirsten was
a lifelong resident of Rahway. He as an inspector for Conrail in Newark
for 39 years before retiring in 1999. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a
50-year member of Boy Scout Troop 40 of Rahway where he became an Eagle
Scout as well as a scoutmaster. He was a 40year member and past exalted
ruler of the Colonia Elks Lodge 2282 and previously, Rahway Elks Lodge
1075. He also served was an umpire for the Rahway Little League and was a
member of the McGettigan Bowling League for 50 years. Mr. Kirsten was
predeceased by his wife, Barbara Cook Kirsten (1975) and his brother,
Erwin Jr. (1995). Surviving are his sons,Richard Jr. of Rahway; his
sisters, Marge Sprovach of Las Vegas, Nev. and Arlene Giese of Rahway and
his brother, Martin of Promised Land, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Physically Challenged Children of the Colonia Elks,
P.O. Box 75, Colonia, N.J. 07067.
